đ Dis is a hellish fortress located in the upper levels of Gehennom, ruled by the arch-devil Dispater.
Location: Dis is located exactly on level 2 of Gehennom.
âšī¸ Characteristics
Dis is explicitly known as "A hellish castle". Unlike the standard mazes of Gehennom, Dis features a fixed layout representing a heavily fortified demonic stronghold.
- The Grand Entrance: The player arrives at the beginning of a long entrance corridor lined with a red carpet. The path is illuminated by braziers and flanked by statues of various devils (pit fiends, erinys, horned devils, ice devils, and barbed devils). A signpost at the entrance ominously warns: "Uninvited Visitors Not Welcome". The entrance culminates at a locked black gate made of obsidian.
-
The Fortress Interior: Beyond the gate lies the main fortress, which is entirely non-diggable. It contains several specialized rooms:
- Dispater's Throne Room: The central chamber where Dispater holds court, surrounded by statues of erinys.
- Library: A room containing multiple bookshelves.
- Armories: Rooms featuring weapon racks and locked chests filled with weapons and armor.
- Reagent Rooms: Small and large storage rooms containing various gems and rocks.
- Traps: The fortress is heavily trapped, featuring spiked pits, fire traps, sleep gas, anti-magic traps, and magic traps.
đš Inhabitants
The fortress is heavily guarded by the denizens of hell:
- Numerous devils patrol the level, including horned devils, pit fiends, and erinys.
- Liches are also known to spawn within the castle walls.
đ Dispater
Dispater, the Archduke of Gehennom, is the level boss. He is a powerful arch-devil capable of casting spells and summoning other devils.
- Dispater's Treasure: In his throne room lies a trapped and locked chest that can only be opened with the ornamental key. This chest contains a massive amount of gold, a guaranteed scroll of supreme diabolism, and a high chance of containing an artifact, along with other valuable loot.
