👉 Medusa's Island is a dangerous, water-logged cavern housing the deadly gorgon, Medusa.

Location: Located 3 levels above the bottom of the Dungeons of Doom (typically levels 22–23).

Medusa's Island is a guaranteed encounter. Message upon entering the level: "You hear the splashing of a naiad."

â„šī¸ Characteristics

  • Layout: The level has four distinct map variants:
    • Variant 1 & 2: A small starting island and a larger main island across a body of water.
    • Variant 3: A sprawling archipelago of tiny islands covered in trees and swarming with ravens.
    • Variant 4: Medusa's palace, which includes a nesting yellow dragon in the backyard.
  • Inhabitants: The water is infested with giant eels, electric eels, jellyfish, Kraken, water trolls, and water nymphs. On the islands reside Medusa, accompanied by snakes, black nagas, stone golems, ropers, and various amphibians.
  • Flora: The islands are dotted with various types of mushrooms and berries.
  • Statues: The level is littered with statues of previous adventurers who looked at Medusa and were turned to stone. Notably, one of these statues is always Perseus, which has a high chance to contain a shield of reflection or levitation boots, along with a scimitar and a sack.

🐍 Medusa

Medusa possesses a passive gaze attack that will instantly turn you to stone if you look at her without reflection or a Blindfold.

  • Defeating Her: The easiest way to kill Medusa is to wear a source of reflection (like a Shield of reflection or an Amulet of reflection). When she looks at you, her gaze will reflect back, instantly petrifying her.
  • Alternative Methods: You can fight her while blindfolded using telepathy, or polymorph into a monster with stoning resistance.
