đ The Underground Castle is a heavily fortified military installation that guards the entrance to Gehennom and houses the legendary wand of wishing.
Location: Located at the bottom of the Dungeons of Doom (typically levels 24â25).
The Underground Castle is the major mid-game milestone.
âšī¸ Characteristics
- Layout: A massive, moated castle occupying the center of the level, adorned with red carpets and red banners. The only entrance is a retractable drawbridge.
- Inhabitants: The castle is garrisoned by hordes of soldiers, lieutenants, captains, and four dragons guarding the storerooms. The throne room is guarded by a gazer and decorated with statues of various racial kings (dwarf, elf, gnome, gnoll).
- Amenities: The castle features a smithy and two NPC rooms inhabited by a hermit and an artificer.
- The Gate to Gehennom: The back exit of the castle contains the stairs leading to Gehennom, ominously marked with a sign "Keep Out - Gate to Gehennom Closed". The gate is guarded by skeleton kings and fire traps.
- Loot: Deep inside the castle lies a chest containing a guaranteed wand of wishing.
đĒ Entrance
The moat is filled with dangerous aquatic monsters. The safest way into the castle is through the drawbridge or levitating to the back entrance.
đ The Drawbridge
- Opening the Bridge: The bridge can be lowered by playing the correct 5-note tune on a musical instrument. The tune can be learned by paying the Oracle for a major consultation, or by brute-forcing it.
- Destroying the Bridge: A wand of striking will shatter the drawbridge.
