📖 What is Gnoll Overseer?
Gnoll Overseer is an interactive assistant built right into GnollHack. You can ask it questions about anything in the game — items, monsters, mechanics, strategies — and get an instant, informed answer without ever leaving the dungeon.
No more switching apps to check a wiki. Just ask, and the Overseer answers.
✨ What Can It Do?
- Answer questions about the game: Ask about monsters, items, spells, artifacts, dungeon branches, or any game mechanic.
- Understand your current situation: When opened during a game, the Overseer can see your character's stats, inventory, surroundings, and message history to give you advice tailored to exactly what you are facing right now.
- Look up real game data: The Overseer does not guess. It reads the actual game source code, consults the GnollHack Wiki, and retrieves exact monster and item stats to give you accurate answers.
- Remember your conversations: Your chat sessions are saved, so you can revisit previous conversations whenever you want.
🏁 How to Access It
There are three ways to use the Gnoll Overseer:
- From the game menu — Open it during gameplay. The Overseer will automatically receive a snapshot of your current game state, so it knows what you are dealing with.
- From the About menu — Open it from the main screen for general questions when you are not in a game.
- On the web — Visit https://overseer.gnollhack.com from any browser. Log in with your GnollHack Account to start chatting.
🆓 Free and Opt-In
The Overseer is completely free and 100% opt-in. It sits quietly in the menu and will never interrupt your gameplay unless you open it. If you prefer the classic, unaided roguelike experience, you never have to touch it.
⚙️ Settings
You can customize the Overseer's behavior in GnollHack's Settings:
- Allow Spoilers — Controls whether the Overseer can discuss detailed mechanics and hidden information. Turn this off if you prefer to discover things on your own.
- Verbose Responses — Toggle between detailed explanations and concise answers.
- Send Game Context — Controls whether your current game snapshot is sent to the Overseer when you open it during a game.
