- Some sea monsters, such as eels, can drown you. It is often a good idea to kill them from a distance.
- Some monsters, such as trolls, regenerate and revive after being killed. It is often best to use a tinning kit on them to get rid of their corpses. Eating the corpses is another possibility.
- If you are bare-handed and wearing no armor, nurses will heal you. They can also increase your maximum hit points.
- Cockatrices and chickatrices can petrify you if they touch you successfully.
- Touching bare-handed or eating a cockatrice or chickatrice corpse will stone you.
- Eating a lizard corpse or a dragon fruit will cure stoning. They will also grant 13-turn protection from further petrification.
- If you fall into a pit while holding a cockatrice or chickatrice corpse you will stone immediately.
- It is good practice to keep one lizard corpse or dragon fruit in open inventory in case you will start petrification.
