An Anthole is a swarming special room completely filled with insectoid monsters, primarily focusing on different types of ants (like giant ants, soldier ants, and fire ants). The sheer number and speed of the ants can easily overwhelm an unprepared character.
🗺️ Generation
Antholes have a 1 in 8 chance of generating on eligible levels starting from dungeon level 13, provided that ants have not been genocided or made extinct. The room is densely packed with sleeping ants and typically contains a substantial amount of food items scattered on the floor.
🏆 Strategy
- Choke Points: As with most swarm rooms, do not step inside. Retreat to a corridor and fight the ants one by one. Ants are notoriously fast and will surround you instantly if given the chance.
- Poison and Fire: Be prepared for poison attacks from giant ants and soldier ants. Fire ants can deal fire damage and destroy flammable items in your inventory, so approach them with caution if you carry valuable scrolls or potions.
- Food: The primary reward for clearing an anthole is the large amount of food left behind, which can secure your nutrition for a significant portion of the game.
