👉 A Garden is a peaceful special room containing trees, herbs, and garden gnomes.

ℹ️ Description

A Garden is a unique GnollHack-specific special room designed as an indoor courtyard or arboretum. It is filled with trees, various herbs, and fungi, providing a natural respite from the dark dungeon. The garden is tended by garden gnomes, who can often be found posing as statues.

🗺️ Generation

Gardens can be generated randomly as a special room. They will only generate in rooms that have exactly one door and no stairs. When a garden is generated, the room is cleared of standard dungeon debris and populated with garden-variety trees and a diverse selection of vegetation on the grass.

👹 Monsters and Statues

Unlike standard rooms, gardens generate a very specific set of monsters and statues, which scale depending on the dungeon's difficulty level.

There is a 50% chance for a garden to generate with statues acting as traps.

Level Difficulty Spawning Monsters Spawning Statues
Low Levels Hobgoblin, bugbear Gnome
Mid Levels Ogre, ogre lord Gnome lord, gnome king, gargoyle
High Levels High-level Ogre-class monsters up to ogre overlord Winged gargoyle

ℹ️ Note: Gnome statues in gardens always spawn wearing a conical hat, blending in as traditional garden gnomes until disturbed.

🌳 Trees

A garden randomly populates a selection of trees. Chopping them down may occasionally anger killer bees, just like regular trees.
