👉 A Throne Room is a special room that contains a throne and a large number of monsters guarding it.
ℹ️ Description
A Throne Room is a special room easily identified by the presence of a throne in the center and a multitude of sleeping monsters surrounding it. The room usually contains a chest with loot, making it a lucrative but dangerous area for early game characters.
🪑 The Throne
The centerpiece of the room is the throne, which is what makes this special room so remarkable. Sitting on a throne can trigger a wide variety of magical effects, both beneficial and dangerous.
When you sit on a throne, there is a 2 in 3 chance that nothing special happens: it will simply feel comfortable if your role is a noble, or out of place otherwise.
However, there is a 1 in 3 chance that sitting on the throne will trigger one of 13 random magical effects. Each of the following effects has an equal 1 in 13 probability of occurring when an effect is triggered (or an overall 1 in 39 chance per sit).
⚠️ Warning: There is a 1 in 3 chance that the throne will vanish in a "puff of logic" after you sit on it, meaning you can only use each throne a limited number of times before it disappears forever!
Beneficial Effects
| Effect | Chance (if triggered) | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Attribute Gain | 1 in 13 | A random attribute increases by 1 point. |
| Full Heal | 1 in 13 | Restores health to maximum, increases maximum health by 4, removes cream from your face, and heals wounded legs. |
| Wish or Luck | 1 in 13 | Grants a wish. However, if your luck is negative, there is a chance it will just increase your luck by 1 instead. |
| Genocide | 1 in 13 | Grants the ability to genocide a species of monster. |
| See Invisible or Map Level | 1 in 13 | Grants permanent intrinsic see invisible. If you already have see invisible or your luck is negative, it maps the entire level instead (or confuses you if the level is unmappable). |
| Identify Items | 1 in 13 | Identifies some random items in your inventory. |
Harmful Effects
| Effect | Chance (if triggered) | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Attribute Loss | 1 in 13 | A random attribute decreases by 3 to 6 points, and you take 1 to 10 magic damage. |
| Electric Shock | 1 in 13 | You take 1 to 30 electric damage (reduced to 1 to 6 if shock resistant) and exercise your constitution. |
| Loss of Gold | 1 in 13 | All the gold in your inventory disappears. |
| Blindness or Curse | 1 in 13 | If your luck is positive, you are blinded for 250 to 349 turns and lose 1 to 2 luck. Otherwise, a few random items in your inventory are cursed. |
| Confusion | 1 in 13 | You become confused for 16 to 22 turns. |
| Summon Audience | 1 in 13 | Summons 1 to 10 court monsters around you. |
Neutral Effects
| Effect | Chance (if triggered) | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Teleport or Aggravate | 1 in 13 | Teleports you to a random location on the level. If your luck is negative, it aggravates all monsters on the level instead. |
🗺️ Generation
Throne Rooms can be generated randomly on Dungeons of Doom levels 7 to 20. They have a 1 in 6 chance of generating on levels eligible for special rooms. The room is always lit, has custom court music, and is populated with sleeping monsters surrounding the throne.
The monsters in a Throne Room are led by a prominent monster acting as the ruler (like an orc king or an ogre king), accompanied by their retinue. A locked chest containing gold is also placed in the room.
