đ Sokoban is a unique puzzle branch where traditional digging, teleportation, and wall-breaking are strictly prohibited. It rewards clever movement and planning.
Location: Branches upwards from the level immediately below Delphi (between levels 6 and 8 of the Dungeons of Doom). The branch is 4 levels deep.
It consists of 4 levels, each presenting a room filled with boulders and pits.
âšī¸ Characteristics
- Layout: Fixed puzzle layouts where the player must push boulders into pits to create a path forward.
-
Restrictions:
- You cannot dig through walls or floors.
- Teleportation (both self and monsters) is disabled.
- Jumping or levitating over pits without filling them incurs heavy luck penalties.
- Breaking boulders or squeezing past them by shrinking is penalized.
- Monsters: High density of randomly generated monsters, often including sleeping ones. Because of the strict no-teleport and no-digging rules, combat must be handled carefully.
đǍ The Puzzles
Each level requires you to push boulders one at a time into specific pits. Once a pit is filled, it becomes a safe floor tile. If a boulder gets stuck against a wall or another boulder, the puzzle may become unsolvable.
đ Loot and Rewards
The primary reason to complete Sokoban is the guaranteed reward at the very top (the 4th level). After solving the final puzzle and defeating the guardian monsters, you will find either:
- A bag of holding (highly coveted for inventory management)
- An amulet of reflection (crucial for surviving late-game spellcasters and dragons)
Additionally, the branch provides a massive amount of food (often generated as giant meat rings, cram rations, and lembas wafers), making it a popular destination for starving characters.
