👉 The Gnoll Overseer supports multiple AI models from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI. As of Overseer v1.1.1, three system models are available. This page explains how to choose the right model to use with the Gnoll Overseer.

🧠 Available Models

The three system models differ in their thinking level, provider, intelligence, speed, and cost:

Model Thinking Level Provider Intelligence Speed Cost
GPT-5.6 Luna High OpenAI 🟡 Medium 🟡 Medium 🟢 Very low
GPT-5.6 Luna Max OpenAI 🟢 High 🔴 Slow 🟢 Low
Gemini 3.7 Flash Medium Google 🟡 Medium 🟢 Fast 🟡 Medium

🎯 Choosing the Right Model

📖 Daily Tasks

For normal tasks, GPT-5.6 Luna (High) is recommended. It is a very cheap but capable model, and it is also relatively fast. It should be able to answer most common questions with high accuracy.

🏃 Urgent Tasks

If you are in a hurry and the question is not too difficult, the recommended model is Gemini 3.7 Flash (Medium). It is much faster than the GPT-5.6 Luna models and has an intelligence comparable to GPT-5.6 Luna with a High or Xhigh thinking level. However, it costs more to use than the GPT-5.6 Luna models, so it should be used only when answering speed is critical.

🏆 Difficult Tasks

For difficult tasks, we recommend using GPT-5.6 Luna (Max). It is much slower than the other two models, but also more intelligent, and it is still quite cheap to use. If you have a difficult question and you have time to wait for an answer, this is the model to choose.

🔑 Bringing Your Own Key

If you are not satisfied with the system models, you can always bring your own API key and use a provider and a model of your choice. In that case, however, you have to pay the usage costs yourself.
