A Dragon Lair is a highly dangerous but extremely rewarding GnollHack-specific special room. The room serves as the nesting ground for dragons of a specific color (red, white, blue, green, orange, black, silver, yellow, or gray), containing adult dragons, their hatchlings, or a single ancient dragon.
🗺️ Generation
Dragon Lairs can be generated randomly as a special room on Dungeons of Doom level 17 and deeper, with a 1 in 5 chance of generating.
🐉 Monster Assortment
The lair is populated entirely by dragons of a single color type. Depending on room space, it contains either:
- Ancient Dragon: A single, extremely powerful Ancient Dragon of that color (1 in 3 chance).
- Adult & Hatchling Dragons: 1 to 2 Adult Dragons alongside 1 to 5 Hatchlings of that color (2 in 3 chance).
The dragons generate with a 50% chance of being asleep.
💎 Treasure
A Dragon Lair contains a vast amount of gold and gems. Each dragon spawns on a pile of gold, and they hoard the following treasures:
- Ancient Dragon: 3000 to 7000 gold pieces, 5 to 10 true gems (non-glass), and 1 to 6 other random items.
- Adult Dragon: 1000 to 3000 gold pieces, 0 to 5 gems, and 0 to 3 other random items.
- Dragon Hatchling: 100 to 300 gold pieces, 0 to 2 gems, and 0 to 1 other random item.
In addition to the hoard, every square in the lair has a 1 in 6 chance of containing gold pieces, alongside a high chance of random gems and items scattered on the floor. Unlike the Garden, no fruit grows in a Dragon Lair.
