πŸ‘‰ A Vault is a small, hidden room completely filled with gold and guarded by a vault guard.

ℹ️ Description

A Vault is a specialized 2x2 room hidden within the walls of the dungeon. It contains no doors and is completely disconnected from the standard corridors. Inside, every single square is covered with a large pile of gold.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Generation

Vaults are generated independently from other special rooms and can appear on almost any level in the Dungeons of Doom. Because they have no doors or connecting corridors, you must find other ways to enter them.

πŸ† Strategy

  • Finding a Vault: Since they have no doors, you cannot simply walk into a vault. You can locate them by using magic mapping, telepathy (to see the guard, if one is present), searching for secret corridors that don't exist, or listening for the sound of someone counting money (which means you are near a vault).
  • Entering: You can enter a vault by digging through the walls with a pick-axe or wand of digging, teleporting inside, or falling through a trap door from the level above.
  • The Vault Guard: If you pick up the gold in a vault, a Vault Guard (often Croesus's guard) may teleport in to confront you. The guard will demand you drop the gold and follow them out. If you obey, the guard will create a temporary corridor leading you safely out of the vault. If you attack the guard or refuse to follow, the guard will attack you. They are strong melee combatants but drop a substantial amount of gold if defeated.
